As you know, the Port has been reviewing how trash service is managed at Boat Haven in response to ongoing misuse of the existing facilities.
Following our previous communication and consideration of the feedback received from customers and the community, we have developed a revised approach that maintains convenient trash disposal options while addressing concerns about improper use.
The proposed changes are as follows:
Environmental Centers
- Retain the existing environmental centers rather than closing them as previously proposed.
- Restrict access to authorized moorage customers through the existing fob-access system.
- Consolidate trash service to one 3-yard dumpster at each of the Commercial Basin, A/B Dock, and D Dock environmental centers.
- Convert the C Dock environmental center into a recycling-only facility, accessible to authorized moorage customers by fob.
Centralized Boatyard Trash Disposal
- Proceed with staffed, scheduled access to the 30-yard roll-off dumpster under the tent adjacent to the Boatyard Washdown Building.
- Disposal will be available Monday through Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Eligible boatyard customers may dispose of up to one 50-gallon bag of boat-generated trash per day during staffed hours.
Service Restrictions
- Trash disposal services will not be available to launch ramp customers.
We recognize that changes to established services can create challenges, and we appreciate the feedback received throughout this process. We believe this revised approach addresses many of the concerns raised while helping the Port better manage disposal costs, reduce misuse, and maintain clean facilities for our customers.
We welcome additional comments and practical suggestions as we work toward implementation. Please send feedback directly to me or to info@portofpt.com, using “BH Trash” as the subject line. We will continue to evaluate suggestions and make adjustments where feasible.
Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and continued efforts to keep Boat Haven and the surrounding facilities clean.
Respectfully,
Port of Port Townsend
