On July 16, 2026, a new $1,000,000 self-serve Avgas aircraft fueling system became fully operational at Jefferson County International Airport (OS9) in Port Townsend, Washington.
The new fuel system is a long-awaited improvement for the JCIA. By enhancing refueling services, the Port is strengthening the airport’s role in supporting aviation in Jefferson County, flight training activities, and increased connectivity in general aviation across the region.
The fuel system project at JCIA was funded by the FAA and the Port of Port Townsend. Planning and design for the project began in 2024, with construction and safety testing completed in early July 2026.
More improvements are either nearly complete or underway at the airport, including an apron and taxi-way pavement preservation project and a new pilot center. Over time, these improvements could spur an increase in the number of aircraft based at the JCIA. “Having a self-serve fuel system means we’re better positioned to serve based aircraft, flight training activities, and visiting pilots” said Port Executive Director and Airport Manager, Eron Berg. “This upgrade will increase airport revenue, help offset the Port’s operational costs, support future hangar development, and create more aviation opportunities for our county.”
The Port invites the public to a brief ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 22 at 2 p.m. at 191 Airport Road.
