MRC Special **VIRTUAL** Meeting
The MRC will be having a Special Meeting to discuss the Navy’s application to expand their special operations training activities in 28 WA State Parks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens can submit public comments to the MRC by email at monica.montgomery1@wsu.edu. Please mark your calendars next week for 6-7:30PM on Thursday, Jan. 14, for our Special Meeting to discuss the Navy’s application to expand their special operations training activities in 28 WA State Parks (including Dosewallips, Fort Flagler, Fort Townsend, Fort Worden, Mystery Bay, and Shine Tidelands).
The two documents that are up for public comment include the:
– Mitigated Determination of Non-significance (MDNS) – Deadline for comment is Jan 22
– Item E-1: Naval Special Operations Training in Washington State Parks – Deadline for comment is Jan 26 (registration required by Jan 20)
Additional documents that may help inform the discussion (including the SEPA checklist, Environmental Assessment, etc.) are listed on the State Parks’ website here and here. If you need help accessing or navigating these documents, please let me know. I’ve also attached the slides that Larry shared and drafted minutes. Prior to meeting, please review the Navy’s application documents and develop a list of questions, concerns and perhaps mitigation steps regarding potential environmental impacts (best if you can get these to me before the meeting – by email/phone).

– Discuss line-by-line

– Disproportionate focus on Region 1/Jefferson County parks

– Agree on recommendation to BoCC regarding potential impacts
