Please join the Port as we take input and answer questions from airport users regarding the need and timing of the runway rehabilitation at Jefferson County International Airport.
The Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Division (WSDOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Reid Middleton Engineers, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association will present information on the methodology for airport pavement condition assessments and rehabilitation processes for airports in Washington (including JCIA) as well as the grant funding process.
The meeting will include time for airport users to discuss concerns and provide suggestions to minimize impacts from future runway rehabilitation work.
Thursday, October 5, 2017
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
300 Airport Road | Port Townsend
ADDITIONAL DETAILS & BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The purpose of the meeting is to address the question of project necessity that has been expressed by airport users. The meeting will provide a forum to:
- Hear and understand concerns over the need and timing of the project;
- Fully explain the methodology employed for the Pavement Condition Analysis;
- Explain the rationale(s) for proceeding with the project as programmed; and
- Hear concerns regarding the future construction schedule and suggestions as to how to mitigate impacts to airport users.
The meeting is scheduled during late afternoon rather than the evening in order to enable attendance and participation by FAA and WSDOT Aviation Division staff.
A Pavement Condition Assessment was performed by WSDOT at JCIA in 2012. Based on the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) from the 2012 assessment and typical pavement deterioration rates, the report predicted that the JCIA runway pavement should be rehabilitated in 2018.
WSDOT does not anticipate completing an updated pavement condition assessment at JCIA until the spring of 2018; however, Port staff believes it is important to have this meeting without further delay.
